With darts enthusiasts all over the world looking forward to watch Kenyan darts duo of David Munyua, 30, and Peter Wachiuri, 39, spice things up at the Modus International Pairs 3 which runs from April 20 -25, 2026 in Portsmouth, England, one may be prompted to joke that they are the finest Kenyan combination besides two soft-layered chapatis and a spicy plate of beans.

Munyua and Wachiuri are trailblazers in Kenyan darts who have risen to become fan favourites at international darts events.

Their maiden appearance as a pair at the Modus International Pairs 3 satisfies fantasies of darts fans worldwide, who have been eagerly awaiting the moment they will team up on the international stage since December 2025, when Munyua stunned Belgian Mike De Decker with a 3-2 comeback victory on his Professional Darts Corporation World Darts Championship debut at the Alexandra Palace in London, England.

Earlier, in February 2025, Wachiuri had made history by becoming the first Kenyan to appear at the Modus Super Series, a weekly darts competition which is played as a series of 13 tournaments in Portsmouth, England. Each week features 12 new players who compete from Monday to Friday for a slot in that week’s final, which is staged on the Saturday. After twelve weeks of competition, the twelve weekly winners compete in ‘Champions Week’, which is played every thirteenth game week to decide who will win that series.

Wachiuri’s debut at the Modus Super Series made Kenya the 39th country to feature in the event. His performance made a huge statement for Kenyan darts as he reached his week’s final, where he lost to Scotsman Scott Campbell.

After that, in May 2025, Wachiuri made two more appearances in competitions organised by Modus, an events and management company that represents many of the world’s top professional darts players.

In one competition, Wachiuri paired up with Englishman Ollie Howard to become the fourth winners of the Red Dragon Modus Super Series Influencer Darts Showdown. That victory came shortly after Wachiuri and his compatriot Manpreet Kalsi had featured in the inaugural Modus International Pairs. Even though they were eliminated in the group stages, Kalsi and Wachiuri made history as the first Kenyan pair to appear in the event.

Munyua and Wachiuri are set to make history yet again for Kenyan darts this week when they compete in the Modus International Pairs 3. Their appearance will make Kenya the first African country to appear in the event twice after South Africans Carl Gabriel and Devon Petersen featured at Modus International Pairs 2 in August 2025.

While Wachiuri travelled to Portsmouth last week, Munyua has been in the English southern coastal city since early April. Munyua competed in the Modus Super Series from April 6 to April 10, but he did not make his week’s final after winning only five of his 25 contests in the group stages.

Munyua was making his debut in the Modus Super Series as he became the third Kenyan, after Munyua and Kalsi, to feature in the event. Kalsi featured in the Modus Super Series in October last year, and even though he did not reach the week’s final, he had made history as the 500th player to make a regular week performance in the event.

In an interview with the event organisers last week, Munyua expressed hope in him and Wachiuri defying the odds at the Modus International Pairs 3.

“I believe in myself, and I believe in Wachiuri. We have been in this kind of game before. We are aiming to do our best, and we are hopeful we will be the best pair in the tournament,” Munyua said.

“It will be big and helpful for Kenyan and East African darts if we win. It will help change the mindset about the quality of darts players from Africa,” he added.

The Modus International Pairs 3 will feature 24 players from 12 nations.

The other countries in the competition are hosts England (Fallon Sherrock and Steve Beaton), Belgium (Andy Baetens and Brian Raman), Canada (Dawson Murschell and Jeff Smith), Germany (Daniel Klose and Paul Krohne), Ireland (defending champions Conor Heneghan and John O’Shea), Netherlands (twin brothers Danny and Wesley van Trijp), Northern Ireland (Neil Duff and Richard McKee), Scotland (Jim McWEwan and Scott Campbell), Wales (Kurt Parry and Richie Burnett), and the United States (Danny Baggish and Danny Lauby).

The French duo Nicolas Thuiller and Iain Cash were a late inclusion after replacing the Croatian pair of Boris Krcmar and Romeo Grbavac.

Fallon Sherrock will be the only female player in the competition.

Munyua and Wachiuri will compete in Group A against Belgium, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Group B will have England, Canada, and the United States. France, Germany, and the Netherlands will be in Group C.

The Modus International Pairs 3 will follow the format of a regular Modus Super Series week, with all 104 matches played in pairs format. The best six teams will advance to the final on Saturday, 25 April.
